Filter “Take a Picture”: I Love the 90s!

From the 1999 album, Title of Record, it’s Filter and “Take a Picture”.

This song is not only beautiful and surreal, so is the video. One of my favorite videos of all time.

The band claims the song is about lead singer Richard Patrick, and one particular instance where he got drunk on a plane and stripped all his clothes off. He then fought with the flight attendants. “Awake on my airplane, my skin is bare, my skin is bare…” Heh.

Would have loved to have taken a picture of that. Richard is yummy.

The Muppet Show: Steve Martin & Dueling Banjos!

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

I love the 70s!

The whole post below with Britney Spears in Daisy Duke cutoff jeans, belly shirt and Uggs somehow, (I can’t imagine how!)  got the song, “Dueling Banjos” stuck in my head! I am 100% serious!

Funny thing, so I was going to add a banjo track to that post, but was distracted when I found this gem of a classic clip! The Muppet Show with Steve Martin in 1977! Dueling Banjos!

The Muppet Show was one of the greatest shows of the 70’s – or ever- especially if you were a kid at that time. Muppet fans, enjoy!

After School Specials: I Love the 80s

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

Those of you who were around in the 80s probably remember the After School Specials, right?

Of course you do! Well it just so happens that Helen Hunt was the star of one of those educational, overly dramatic, Regan-era specials meant to teach us kids the rights and wrongs of the world. More like, scare the crap out of us.

Helen plays a girl whose boyfriend pressures her into snorting cocaine (or speed) and the consequences are dire. Diana Scarwid who you might remember played Joan Crawford’s child in Mommy Dearest and most recently Mother Superior on Pushing Daisies, plays the teacher.

This After School Special first aired on my 10th birthday, heh, March 3, 1982. And yes, I remember seeing it.

4 Years Ago This Week…

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

Celebrity news is killing me today, super slow

On a positive note, that means no one has died. *Knock on wood*

So I decided to take it back to September 2005, to see what was going on, this week, four-years ago..

hilary-duff-anorexicHilary Duff was a skeleton.

2005 was the year of the bobblehead. Nicole Richie, queen of the anorexic bitches in ‘05, had rubbed off on Lindsay Lohan who was also looking completely emaciated. Everyone was starving, puking or on the cocaine diet – or all of the above.

Not sure which one was Hilary’s problem, but she looked terrible in ‘05.

This was also the year she had her horse-teeth veneers put in. Notice how she is smiling but not showing her teeth?  Lucky for Hilary both her body and teeth are doing much better in Sept. 09.

kate_moss_cocaineKate Moss caught chalking up lines of cocaine

What was that I said about the cocaine diet?

Kate Moss, even back in 2005 was known to be a coke freak, and was finally caught on film chalking up lines of blow. Of course this was back when Kate was banging Pete Doherty, so what else would you expect? Not that I blame her drug use on him…but birds of a feather get high together.

After the scandal Kate lost contracts and jobs, and she eventually ditched junkie boyfriend Doherty, but nothing has changed. She still loves partying and getting loaded, and Doherty is still a junkie.

Britney Spears had her first baby

Sean Preston Federline was born via c-section.

Initial rumors were that his name was Preston Michael Spears Federline.

I wanted to call it “Prest-Fed”.

lizzie-grubman-hulk

Lizzie Grubman has a classic upskirt moment

Now, keep in mind this was before everyone was doing it and there were very few gossip blogs around. But back when it happened it was pretty major news for those of us who were blogging.

Celebrity publicist, Lizzie Grubman was picked up by Hulk Hogan at a party and showed everyone that she forgot to wear panties that day. Oopsie! At least she wasn’t crashing her car into crowds outside of nightclubs that day.. We used to hear all sorts of crazy stories about Lizzie. But alas, she has settled down a bit these days since becoming a mother back in January.

Bette Davis on Letterman, 1989

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

Bette Davis was Hollywood royalty.

I found this great old clip of her on the David Letterman Show from 1989. She would die later that year. She was a brilliant little thing, barely standing over 5′ tall, with a wonderful sense of humor.

Davis was nominated for ten Academy Awards throughout her career. A record back in 1962. Since then, only 4 other people have broken her record. Meryl Streep (with fifteen nominations and two wins), Katharine Hepburn (twelve nominations and four wins), Jack Nicholson (twelve nominations and three wins) and Laurence Olivier (ten nominations and one win).

Gwen Stefani: Circa 1991

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

LOVE this video I came across of a 21-year-old Gwen Stefani who is giving an interview as she hot-glues a costume together.

A young, talented girl who had yet to take the world by storm. And how she did! I can’t believe how damn cute she is in this video. She seems so naive yet so hopeful. A cool little cat, no doubt.

Yes, the second Gwen post this week, but whatever, I’m in a Gwen kind of mood.

Saved By the Bell Reunion PHOTO

Saved by the Bell Reunion Photo

The cast of Saved by the Bell has reunited for a photo for the latest People magazine cover. The reunion, which includes cast members Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani Thiessan, Lark Voorhies, Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez, omits one specific little prick. Dustin Diamond as Screech! YAY! I can’t stand that conceited (for no reason), pompous, jerkoff! They even edited him out of the original Saved by the Bell photo! Genius!

Actually, the reason they left Screech out of the shots is that he is releasing a tell-all book about the cast and his experience on the show. Which YOU KNOW is going to be filled with a bunch of rubbish. This guy will say or do anything for the media’s attention, which he so desperately craves.

To me, he is right up there with good ol’ Piggez Hilton!

The Fugees “Ready or Not” – I Love the 90s!

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

The Fugees were absolutely, hands down, one of the best bands in the 90s.

And this, in my opinion, was one of their best singles.

Off the 1996 album, The Score, it’s The Fugees with “Ready or Not”.

Just a little trivia about the song: President Barack Obama named “Ready or Not” as his favorite song in a top 10 list submitted to Blender in August 2008.

Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Liston, 1965 [VIDEO]

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Liston

For you boxing fans out there, I bring you one of the most notorious fights of all time.

Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston, way back in 1965. This fight was actually the second for these two, with Cassius Clay (Ali’s given name) winning the first fight by technical knockout after six rounds. The fight had a very controversial ending and so the boxing federation demanded a rematch.

Liston was a bad mofo. He was an ex-con who was rumored to have had ties to organized crime.

But Clay also had some crazy tricks up his sleeve. The day after he won the first fight he changed his name to Muhammad Ali and received the backing of radical Black Muslims.

Many thought Ali hadn’t a shot against Liston and as you watch the video you can hear the crowd clearly booing Ali before the bout.

muhammad-ali-sonny-listonAfter winning the second fight (above video) in the first round, many wondered if Ali truly landed a knockout punch. It was rumored that Liston owed the mob a bunch of money and so he threw the fight, betting against himself in order to raise some quick coin. Another rumor was that Liston feared the Nation of Islam extremists who steadfastly supported their new recruit, Ali.

Liston claimed many years later that he had in fact thrown the fight because he feared for his safety. However, this has never been confirmed. Even if he did owe the mafia money, he would never admit it publicly. So really, I think either theory is possible.

Read more about the Ali vs. Liston fight at Wikipedia.

[Right: Ali standing over Liston taunting him saying "Get up and fight, sucker!"]

Yearbook Yourself!

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

YearbookYourself_1982

Yes! One of the greatest websites on the internet is BACK!

Yearbook Yourself has relaunched this month after a long hiatus and it was well worth the wait. In case you haven’t checked it out – you must! Celebrity Smack’s editor, Lindsey, called my attention to it and after seeing her pics I had to go do some as well.

You can take a photo and basically put it through a time machine going back anywhere from 1950-2000! What’s also great about this site is the music it plays to coincide with the year. Ingenious.

So go check it and and Yearbook YOURself!

Here are a sampling of Spicy’s yearbook pics!

I used this pic to start:

Funny thing, the pic with the big hair (hand on the chin) almost looks identical to my senior photo from 1990! Scary. My favorite is definitely the hippie one, with the Lennon glasses and headband.. A close second? The afro. Who knew I looked so hot in a fro?

Go do yours now!
