Daryl Hannah Joins Sea Shepherd in Protesting Japanese Whaling Fleet

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

You may have seen the Animal Planet reality show ‘Whale Wars’, in which Captain Paul Watson heads an anti-whaling conservation society, Sea Shepherd.

If not, you should check it out.

Each whaling season a group of activists board the vessel, the Steve Irwin, and physically try and intervene with  Japanese whalers by using non violent, yet extremely aggressive, means.

Some tactics they use are stink bombs which spoil the whale meat if contacted and causes a very unpleasant smelling ship, slime grenades which make it difficult to walk on deck, and prop fowling.

I think that regardless of where you stand on the issue, you have to admit, this show is entertaining.

This year the Steve Irwin will have a celebrity activist aboard, helping to raise awareness about Japanese whaling in the Antarctica.

Actress Daryl Hannah, a longtime humanitarian who supports animal and human rights, is climbing aboard the vessel and joining the crew for at least part of the voyage.

Greenpeace (which Captain Paul Watson co-founded but was eventually kicked out due to his radical maneuvers) opts out of the seasonal chase each year, instead chosing peaceful and non-evasive protests. Hannah thinks that’s the wrong approach and wishes the organization would join Captain Watson in his hunt.

She says, “If Greenpeace would join forces with Sea Shepherd they would shutdown the whaling industry right away. If they were really serious and held their convictions they could accomplish this.”

Greenpeace responded saying that it is happy that Hannah supports anti-whaling efforts but wishes the actress would instead chose to travel to Japan and campaign.

“We think the best place to win this campaign in is Japan,” Greenpeace’s Reece Turner said.

This year the Sea Shepherd will be seeking out the whaling fleets for a period of five months. In that time the Japanese will have slaughtered 1,000 endangered fin and minke whales under an international loophole allowing scientific whaling for research.

Scott Baio and His Infant’s Medical Scare

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

Scott Baio, 47, is opening up about the medical scare he and wife Renee Sloan, 39, had to endure with their infant daughter Bailey DeLuca.

Only one day after mother and child came home from the hospital, Bailey, who was born premature, had tested positive for a potentially fatal disorder.

“[I could] hear it in her voice,” Renee said of the call from the pediatrician asking them to bring their daughter in for further testing.

Preliminary testing had showed she might have GA-1, (a metabolic disorder that can cause seizures and leads to coma and even death) Baio said it was the worst day of his life.

“Every breath that you take, every thought that you have, every moment that you’re conscious, it’s all you’re thinking about. The disease is a constant in your brain. It never leaves you.”

Renee agreed saying, “Every time [Scott] would see a child, see a baby, he would just break down. It was so tough to go through the holidays, our wedding … all the while knowing, our kid may die.”

After an exhausting ten weeks of running tests, the couple was ecstatic to learn that Bailey was completely healthy and that the result had been a false positive. “We jumped through the ceiling,” Baio said.

Still, having sympathy for children and families afflicted with the disease, the couple have started the ‘Bailey Baio Angel Foundation’ to promote awareness.

Here is Amy in a photo shoot for the April issue of UK’s Easy Living magazine.  The promotion is to help raise breast cancer awareness among young women.

Great cause, but you have got to be kidding me. Amy Winehouse is hardly to poster child for health of any sort. Bitch goes for months without getting her teeth fixed but she’s a spokesperson promoting health? No problem smoking crack but make sure your titties are healthy..

Whatever.

Celebrity Quote of the Day - Jenny McCarthy

Source: www.celebritysmackblog.com

mccarthy-autism.jpg

“I’ve been speaking to moms across the country who are all shouting out the same thing: ‘This (diet and supplement intake) is working.’ It’s so heartbreaking to see the medical community not support something called diet and vitamins. And it pains us, city after city after city. I see this heartbreak on these mom’s faces. Autism isn’t covered by (medical) insurance. If things like diets and supplements are working, then why not support it? These kids are getting better and I will not shut up and will not stop fighting about it.”

- Jenny McCarthy wants the medical community to support the fact that vitamins and diet can ease the symptoms of autism in children.
